What is the REAL aikido? Is the Daito ryu closer to what Ueshiba intended or is the Ki Aikido the ultimate expression of blending?

Surely the answer is 'it depends'. It seems to me that Ueshiba started with Aikido as a hard style with short movements and that as he grew older he changed to larger, more flowing movements that worked through his personal skill rather than any physical strength. So the styles taught will depend upon when the particular teachers learned from him.

If Aikido is a 'Martial Art' then surely only those moves which are truly martial in nature belong? It is certain that the Ki Aikido end of the scale is not martial and therefore not true Budo. So where is the line or is Aikido outside Budo?

well i think aikido is 'the way with harmonising with energy' that can take many forms both the harder and softer versions, they both have that element in them.
