i have a little problem wondering if any one has any ideas on
trying to set up some targets for test cutting i have the straw and the ties but what i need is bamboo to go down the center to make it rigid the only stuff i can find is dried bamboo which splinters when cut and isn't very strong anyone have any ideas that wont damage my sword.

It would have to be 'wet' (freshly cut SOFT) wood about two centimetres in dia. That will probably be quite close to being bone like. Conifer and Spruce has sticky resin problems on the blade though. Silver birch and Common Ash would be better, but would still leave slight stains on the blade (all living wood does), and what a lot of bother to go to just for two or three cuts per bundle!!! Also problems with obtaining said wood either legally or justifiably. (Cost; waist of young tree?).
Thats why bamboo is ideal in countries where it grows like grass (it is a grass). Maybe you could approach an estate or arboretum that actually grows bamboo ornamentally. But if they are willing to part with some it will probably cost you.
They used dead bodies for blade testing aswell, but I don't advise graverobbing either.
