Pinan nidanHi,Was looking into the history and stuff of this online, and came across this video on you tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WiMSAs_lzY4&feature=related Was wondering how the 1st and 4th moves differ from how I was taught, is this just different applications for the move in the kata or do we do it differently? Thanks!

Pinan NidanHi Adam. That looks the way we teach, the stances are very slightly longer, probably to pretty it up for kata competition! |

Was wondering though, it looks like he has a flat front foot on the 1st and 4th move, where as I seem to remember (and this could be where I'm going wrong, my memory is terrible!) that we would go on to the toes of the front foot in this move? |

Pinan NidanIf you look carefully you'll see he does go into cat stance (nekoashi Dachi) although very briefly. The difficulty with 'Stances' in our style is they are all supposed to be transient with no stopping, this can be tricky when learning as we teach in a 1, 2, 3 manner to convey the correct position at each stage |
