(Kobujutsu) Myself, my co-instructor and two of our students attended the Iain Abernethy seminar, It was a very informative seminar based on the use of ground fighting in a real fight situation.
All of Iain Abernethy's techniques can be found within the Kata of Karate.
He is also a friend of such respected martial artists as Geoff Thompson, Peter Consterdine, Mo Teague and Doug James to name a few and trains with them regularly.
I would thoroughly recomend inviting him to our Dojo to do a seminar.
His approach to Karate is the perfect compliment to Sasori-Te Karate-Jutsu as His Karate is based on the Wado Ryu style and strongly emphasizes the importance of Kata as the backbone of Karate as opposed to the modern competition approach. _________________ May the force be with you
I found the Iain Abernethy seminar really helpful in understanding the bunkai as I have previously trained in traditional Wado Ryu to 1st Kyu.
In particular I enjoyed the application of Naihanchi for groundwork.
Although any martial artist would have benefited by the applications covered, it would be of particular interest of Wado based practitioners.
Iain also mentioned a translation of Anko Itosu’s 10 precepts of karate. The translation was carried out my a non martial artist, so can be taken on face value. Have a look on http://blog.iainabernethy.com/?p=81 and see what you think. Itosu was the creator of the Pinan series kata.

I emailed him and he said he would be happy to do a seminar for us, as he is up and down the country all the time, we just have to give him a date when we would like him to come down and what we would like him to do. Also would anyone be interested in going on a trip to visit his dojo in th summer??????
